Friday, April 07, 2006 - Rain, rain, go away.......no wait, stick around another day.

Such a blah day today, but honestly I can't complain too much. I REALLY hate having to give up a day of my weekend to come in here and suffer through baseball and/or softball, so if the rain continues through tonight and in to tomorrow (as it should) then I'll get my day off which'll be a bonus. There's absolutely nothing going on here today which I also shouldn't complain about because usually there's more stuff to do then I'd like to admit. Yesterday in my down time I cleaned out my desk. Actually didn't take too long which was good, but it's very organized now. For some strange reason there are coaches here who'd like to ignore the fact that it's pouring down the rain and is predicted to continue this trend through tomorrow. They still insist that it's going to miraculously stop, the fields will flash dry, and there will be games tomorrow. Maybe I'm just more of a realist. I've got no problem seeing rain and mud and general wetness and saying "hey, there's no way we're playing on this field tomorrow." Hell, they can't even decide (while it's currently raining outside) whether or not to have practice inside or outside today. I'm guessing this is on the off chance that the whole cessation of rain/flash dry of the fields will occur within the next hour. That there is just common sense. In other news. I think my plans for the weekend have been scrapped and I also think there's little to no chance of me going out next Thursday to see a band. I'd hate to think that I won't be going out again until after school's out, but there's a chance that'll happen. Blah.

Friday, March 31, 2006 - The Office Diaries

I'm rather new to MySpace so I'm sure none of you have read a blog yet about the furnace that is my office. Today was really the first day of the year thus far that I've experienced these hellish conditions, but let me just tell you that last summer it was nearly unbearable.
To start, there are only two temperatures here in the building......hell frozen over, or hell ablaze. Not to say that my job is hell, but more to say that those are the prevailing weather conditions in this building. Last summer we went from wearing sweats one day to keep warm (Katie once noted it was about to snow while doing her homework at my desk) to stripping down to our skivvies and showering in the middle of the day the next. It was a lose lose situation. There was rarely, if ever, a day where one might be comfortable in the clothing she'd worn to work that day. Additonally, the really expensive NATA certificate hanging on my wall was showing signs of water damage from condensation that had built up on it during the "hell ablaze" days. You see, in the athletic training room we have plenty of water, we've got whirlpools, and an ice machine, 2 sinks, 2 hoses..... So when we have a "hell ablaze" day it's not only hot, it's EXTREMELY humid. I came very close to taking down my masters degree and putting it back in my house because I was afraid of further damage to it. (Note to self: Make sure you take all documentation home over the summer.)
For some reason I just thought this year would be different. How silly of me. Earlier I thought it was just because I was really busy running around trying to get thigns taken care of, but alas, I was wrong. At this very moment I'm sitting here, quite relaxed, typing away, and sweating profusely. Disgusting....yes........unexpected..........well, no. I'll have to remember to pack myself some more clothes to bring in tomorrow so that I can have a fresh stock in my locker for when I'll need to shower in the middle of the day.

Monday, March 20, 2006 - Back to school...............er..........work.

Well, spring break is over. Thankfully it turned out to be a really long week with relatively nice weather (except for the day I had to come in to work the high school game in gale force winds.) Did manage to accomplish a few things. The begining of the stairs for instance, and a good bit of laundry. Last night I booked a trip to NY to visit Katie and crew for a few days in May. It'll be Josh's first trip to the city so it should be interesting. I spent tons of time there when I was growing up visiting my aunt and cousins so I think he'd be missing out if he didn't get the same chance. I can't expect Katie to live there forever (and frankly I hope she doesn't...........still hunting out places in Arlington KT). Got Josh started on his swimming lessons and I'm really hoping that today he'll actually want to get in the pool. Soccer should be starting soon (still waiting to hear from the coach) so that'll be something fun for him to do 3 days a week as well. Had a revelation last night that while I've got a couple of months off over the summer and Josh and I will be hanging out for most of it, I should take this opportunity to expose him to the culture that we have here in DC. I think he can handle a trip to the Smithsonian once a week, and over 8 weeks we would get alot of subjects covered.
Meanwhile, I've got plenty to do here at work before Kendra leaves. Seems as tho she's got lots of connections here, and I've got none. I don't even know what the copier code is incase my little one here in the office craps out and I have to use the big one upstairs. Thankfully she seems to have been thinking the same thing cause I see here she's got a list of things that need to be covered and it's the same list I've got. Came in today and she'd virtually cleared out all of her things which makes the place look amazing bigger.
We've got tons of games this week, but it's supposed to rain/snow so I don't know how many we'll actually get in.

Friday, March 17, 2006 - The Stair Challenge Begins

Recently I decided that I wanted to rip all the carpet off my stairs and paint them. This seems like a good idea, and I've seen pictures on the internet of lovely painted stairs where there used to be crappy carpet. I figured I'd take some of my free time over spring break to rip all the carpet off the stairs and that would give me 6 weeks until school is out to decide exactly what I wanted to do in the way of paint. While this all seems very simple, it's not. Ok, so I start at the bottom step and start ripping off the carpet. Underneath the carpet is padding which is separately attached to the wood by staples. At the crease of each step are 2 strips of nail embedded wood that I guess serves to hold the carpet down in the creases. I'm already in over my head cause I didn't realize I'd have to dismantle this much crap. I just thought I'd be ripping the carpet off and pulling out errant carpet tacks. Thankfully Brad joined in and pulled off all the strips (and I only took the carpet off the first set of like 8 steps.) I decided at this point in time that I'm just gonna leave it like this and decide how much I really want to deal with this before dismantling the other 3 staircases. I mean frankly, it's alot easier to just recarpet one set of like 8 stairs then to have to redo an entire house. My next step will be to pull up all the staples with padding embedded in them left behind when I ripped up the padding. Those suckers just do not wanna come out. Next will be to caulk the gaping holes between each stair and adjacent riser and then fill in the massive crevace in the middle of the first step. Just keep repeating "but you'll never have to vaccum the stairs again....."

Monday, March 13, 2006 - Such a great day!

It is unbelieveably gorgeous outside! Today we've got a high of 88 and I'm on spring break. Man I love working at a college. Sadly, this will end come this evening and when I have to go back to work on Saturday there'll be a high of 40 with a chance of snow. Ah, well.........today I'm wearing shorts and a t-shirt and running every errand I've got.

Saturday, March 11, 2006 - Shamrockfest Rocked!

Shamrockfest Rocked! Did I already mention that? Troy's place was awesome as was his roomie and friends. Additionally he's got a girl and she was way cool, way cute, and totally sweet. Way to go Troy! At the actual Shamrockfest we listened to a couple of bands which were both really good. The one is from Philly tho so I doubt I'll be seeing them anytime soon, but their lead singer was a chic and she was amazing. Seriously, someone needs to sign her up right now. Got to see Sass, Jill, and Jeff so that was also cool. After all that we (oh, we being at any given point in time, Shannon, Kendra, and Tiffany) all walked over to Jeremy's friend's house and partied with them for awhile. Also, a really good time. Jeremy was completely plastered and my face still hurts from laughing so much. My feet are killing me so I think I'm gonna go soak em in something now.

Friday, March 10, 2006 - Even more Shamrockfesting

As if the original plan for Shamrockfest wasn't already great, it's now gotten event better. Getting together with even more friends (whom I haven't seen in years) for kegs & eggs, then off to see bands, then off to party some more. I'm so excited I might pee myself. Can't wait to get today over with so I can go home and wash the new green polo I picked up this morning!
